ABOUT ME
Hello, my name is Emily. I was born and raised in California and currently reside in Southern California (SoCal, or in this case, SewCal). I work in clinical research and have a background in Cognitive Neuroscience. Before pursuing science as my profession, I earned a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles (FIDM). I realized early on that fashion wasn't the right career choice for me and made the decision to pursue my other passion, science! Now, over 20 years later, I have started a personal journey to expand and improve my sewing skills, all while creating a handmade wardrobe.

I have taken to social media to join the online community of sewists and makers to share my experiences in sewing. My main presence is on YouTube, where I vlog about fabric hauls, pattern reviews, sew-alongs, swatch clubs reviews, and more. You can also follow me on Instagram.

I recently added mandala painting to my list of artistic endeavors. I randomly stumbled upon a YouTube video of someone painting a rock, creating a colorful and intricate mandala using swooshes and dots. I dove right into this art form, and have found it to be incredibly meditative and therapeutic. You can find my mandala painting on Instagram @swoosh_and_dot. I also have a page on my website for Mandala Painting.
I am lucky to have a loyal studio assistant, my 11-year old Abysinnian cat, Oliver Simon.
